Numbers

Tiago has done most of the job by showing how different elements can enhance the visibility and tracking of the blog, so I thought to just stick with…numbers and why we need measuring methods in improving our blog?

I will talk briefly about Google Analytics and how it can give precious insights to us. The best part is that it gives very basic reports that anybody can understand, as well as more sofisticated ones. Analyzing all traffic data means looking at graphs and charts that will show how many visitors the blog has, their evolution as a function, average of pages, time, content, ecc. Just by looking attentively one can understand the strengths and weaknesses of a blog or site, because like in everything we do, we need solid ground and numbers to understand quality and preference. This will generate the need of rethinking maybe the content, the design part or maybe just focus on the details. In my opinion the content has top level importance together with the “blog personality”, generating readers that hopefully will continue to return and spend more time with “us”. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure that one out.

For us it’s so useful to understand the specific tools that can generate high volume traffic and how we can meet the expectation of the reader in order to build a successful story. In my opinion, one step at the time will do the trick, because learning by doing is the best way.

  1. Though numbers are important, I think that we have to always keep in mind that this is an online collaboration tool made mostly for us. It's ok to worry and think that other people other from us are going to read the blog, but I believe we shouldn't make this our main purpose. This is a tool for us to share and discuss rather than to showcase this master to the rest of the world...

  2. I agree with you that our main purpose is to have our "space", but if this space is all we need... why bother redesigning it from a visual point of view? I already know your answer, because you studied graphic design, and you should know mine, coming from a critical eye of marketing and comunication. If we will enter in this kind of philosophy, it would be like resting home alone and eating from plastic dishes:))..why bother, nobody sees us!

  3. That's all good and well but... what about this blog's stats? are they telling us anything yet?

  4. I think so, from what I've seen in the stats lately there are a big part of viewers from Germany (it actually comes after Italy) that are accessing the blog... Which actually kind of surprised me!

  5. And what about those people accessing the site from Facebook? How is that even possible?
